“This is not the story of how I was born, lived or died. This is not the story of how my lifelong animosity with Eloc Saint Mauré began, my odd, disastrous friendship with Archibald Medici, why Marianne without the moustaches let me live, who Zachary Bancroft really was or why I murdered Michael Steadler. And I am definitely not telling about what I did under the names of Andrew Waits, Lucian Balain or Baptiste Fauxmort or their encounters with vampire hunters and conclave leaders of European cities who died most mysteriously. This is a story about the present. I’m not the least little bit sentimental and if you want a long, whiny or romantic drawling about the time before toilet paper, electricity or rock candy-flavored condoms I suggest you go find another book.”“The sign I drew suddenly glows with a green light, shifting to red, then the air vibrates and he, Sha Luobri-Eh, the demon I’ve made far too many deals with, steps through the barrier between our worlds. I’ve stopped counting how many times it’s been, it stopped feeling all right a while ago. The prices for his services are almost way too high every time and as soon as I’m at it, it means I’m in too deep trouble again. Like I said, oh the sweet life of being a magician. Today he’s chosen to appear in his favourite form, the warrior. Good, I don’t like it when he-oh, demon don’t have a gender by the way-take on the other forms he uses to provoke me. Absurd female shapes with enormous breasts, historical figures or little creatures looking like they were crafted by a blind wood carver for putting plants on are some of his choices. Once he popped up as my “evil twin”, funny as hell if you have that type of humour.”This is the book of the two characters that couldn’t have less in common who share one single acquaintance, Michael Steadler. The reader shall soon discover that there’s one more common denominate between the vampire Alexander Barrister and the magician known as Sinner which may be the end of them both. The third book in the “Die for You” series offers a spin off from the main character and delves into the mysteries of the two men closest to him. As delightfully sinful and intimate as the first two, it brims with blood, sex and magic. This book can be enjoyed even to the new reader independently of the two prequals. Mature content, reader discretion is advised.
