Overview
A thrilling an African detective drama that goes beyond the physical boundaries of the continent. The insatiable cravings of men creates an instability in the supernatural realm and when the gods cannot be appeased, calamity is bound to follow. The play portrays the powers of cultural rites and rituals of an African village in a world currently dominated by science and technology. It shows the role these rites still play in our African societies and unless properly done away with still have powerful impacts when mishandled. The happenings might seem fictional but oral history has it that some of the lakes found in the North West Region originated from supernatural circumstances and even remained deadly till some spiritual cleansing was done. The play itself is no way linked to the stolen Statue “Afu-Akom” that became a serious menace to its Western residents and was constantly in tears. Jones just finished his police training to become a detective and is posted to his native village Ako to help resolve the mysterious problem with a calamity at hand. There is a heavy dispute between the elders whom agree to the authority of the new crowned Fon (paramount chief) and the others who don’t. They also seek to get the source of the numerous misfortunes befalling their village. Just then the Chief servant is found wailing at the entrance of the palace and wearing his master’s cloak covered with blood. This is a very bad omen to the entire village and the elders take it very serious. A recent by the elders sends a terrible shock wave upon across every village. Nearby villages begin to flee for fear of being caught up by the happenings of the Ako village. The government declares a state of emergency not knowing what it would have to explain to the modern world of such happenings. It decides not to leave any stone unturned putting the best team in place to redress the situation mounting all the pressure it can on the international collaborators concern.Primary investigations lands them in Asia for a chase and race against time. Unfortunately, what they are after has become the missing piece to complete a ritual which stands to answer the dream of every billionaire; a dream of gaining immortality. Jones alongside with his team set out for an adventure full of suspense amongst them the notorious Chief Custodian and Chief Detective Ukwa. They fate of their land rest upon their shoulders with the state providing all the military, financial and diplomatic support necessary to get the job done and on time.I the Author, a native from Akum and grew up in Abakwa town, must also admit that though this is an original story of personal inspiration, the realities of this play however have once occurred not only in the Mankon Village of the North West Region of Cameroon but in many parts of Africa as well as earlier indicated. Traditional items of high value have been smuggled to several museums or private holdings abroad. If such items do have a positive role in their captive residence, then they must have a negative role in their absence back home. We sold our siblings and gold back then in exchange mirrors and tobacco. Today we sell our brains and gold in exchange for smartphones and vehicles. Worst we sell our identity and culture in exchange for nothing hoping to be accepted as assimilated. You can never know where you are going to if you don’t know where you came from. We are Africans with a history as old as Genesis, we brought about civilization and discovered the new world decades before Columbus. We educated Europe and built the greatest kingdoms. Yet today we cannot even boast of our own history buried in the sands of the Sahara. Like beggars have our lions become before sheep. The reader thus would not regret buying this lovely African masterpiece.
