Dr Jekyll is an upstanding, well-respected and well-liked man He is particularly interested in the human mind - whether or not a person can have both good and evil sides to their personality and what happens when these two sides come into conflict with each other. He decides to experiment on himself, with horrific consequences.The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was first published in 1886 and was an immediate success on both sides of the Atlantic. Its author, Robert Louis Stevenson, was a Scottish novelist and poet whose best-known works include Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and A Child's Garden of Verses.
