A Princess of Mars is a science fiction novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The book was first published in 1917 and is the first in a series of novels known as the Barsoom series. The story follows John Carter, a Confederate veteran of the American Civil War who finds himself mysteriously transported to the planet Mars, known to its inhabitants as Barsoom. On Barsoom, Carter finds himself in the midst of a war between the various nations of the planet. He soon meets and falls in love with Dejah Thoris, a princess of the city-state of Helium. Together, they embark on a series of adventures and battles against the various factions vying for power on Barsoom. The novel is known for its vivid descriptions of the Martian landscape and its creatures, as well as its swashbuckling action and romance. It has been adapted into various forms of media, including comic books, films, and video games. A Princess of Mars remains a beloved classic of science fiction and adventure literature.I am a very old man; how old I do not know. Possibly I am a hundred, possibly more; but I cannot tell because I have never aged as other men, nor do I remember any childhood. So far as I can recollect I have always been a man, a man of about thirty. I appear today as I did forty years and more ago, and yet I feel that I cannot go on living forever. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
