What makes the man a monster? What makes the boy the man he becomes? Some people are just screwed from birth. Collected here are the ramblings of the notorious Andrew "the Foot Doctor" Masters - the serial killer who terrorized Charlotte, North Carolina in the early nineties. Read in his own words about his brutal upbringing, about his chilling murders, about his dark twisted secrets and his twisted mind. Learn about the cat and mouse game he played with the homicide detectives who depended on an incorrect criminal profile. See his gruesome end and his evil legacy. The Foot Doctor Letters is a novel of psychological suspense which shows the anatomy of what makes a man a serial killer. It demonstrates in brutal detail that monsters are made not born. An Interview with the author, Rex Hurst.Q: How did you get started writing?A: Like most authors it all began when I was young. I was naturally drawn to suspenseful police procedurals and ones dealing with murder investigations. I was hooked when I first read The Black Tower by P. D. James back when I was a kid. I was probably too young to read a book like that, but I did it anyway. Q: What are your favorite types of literature?A: I am absolutely addicted to mysteries and thrillers. Anything to do with criminal psychology, criminal profiling, and crime scene investigation catches my interest. Fiction that dwell on the dark recesses of the human mind, stories showing the eerie depths humanity can sink to, dark tales exploring the creepy reality of the world all of these fascinate me. Q: What was the first film you ever watched that shocked you?A: The film that first scared the hell out of me is not classified as horror. It was Watership Down, specifically the scene where the rabbit’s warren is paved over and they all suffocate in the most blood-curdling manner. It just scared the hell out of me. I’ve only watched it once, but I remember every detail.Q: How has your early reading experiences influenced your writing?A: Going back and looking at those novels which grabbed me as a young person and a teen, I am not able to analyze how they affected me so deeply. Dance Hall of the Dead by Tony Hillerman taught me how to slowly build a suspenseful atmosphere. The Black Dahlia by James Elroy showed me how to create a world dripping with fear and dread. “The Rats in the Walls” by Lovecraft demonstrated how even the simplest things can be maddening to some people.
