Overview
Nimue is just about to celebrate her tenth birthday, when the Saxon invaders raid her village, burning her home to the ground, killing all the inhabitants and destroying everything she has ever known. Her mother is taken captive, but before she is separated from her, she gives Nimue a mysterious ring and orders her to run into the forest to find her "kin" who are none other than the Faery Folk of legend. They will help her to find her father, the enigmatic Mage and Magician known as Merlin. Alone and afraid, Nimue begins a magical journey which takes her all the way from the tiny village of Cwmylludd in the Summer Lands, to the mystical town of Glastonbury, the great castle of Tintagel in Cornwall, the decaying and corrupt town of Aquae Sulis, eventually reaching a terrifying conclusion at a lonely cross - road near the great stone circles at Avebury, where she must make the most important decision of her life.Set against the back drop of the story of the coming of Arthur, the Once and Future King, the reader will meet once again, all those characters of legend, such as Merlin, Uther Pendragon, Igraine, and Morgan la Fey. This first book in the Trilogy, set in the Dark Ages, is seen through the eyes of a young girl, coming to terms with tragic loss, horrifying betrayal, as well as finding out about her mystical origins and the extraordinary destiny she shares with her father and the perilous journey she must undertake to becoming one of the greatest female Magicians of legend, The Lady of The Lake.
