Overview
Strange Gods, Strange Altars is a long, lush (600 + page) novel involving Caribbean voodoo combining high adventure with portrayals of the practices of modern-day voodoo cults. My story begins with an investigation into the disappearance of an attractive teenage girl from an elite New Orleans boarding academy. Beverly O'Bannion has run away with mysterious, enchanting Luis Obregon. Mesmerized by the Cuban's good looks, his charm, his voodoo beliefs, and by his colorful circle of Caribbean friends, Beverly realizes too late that Luis is the tool of a highly unorthodox and dangerous voodoo priest. Their plan is to take Beverly to Haiti. But when Detective Peter Albano comes to the aid of Beverly's boyfriend, a Michigan college student, he is appalled to discover Beverly is being taken to Haiti only because she has been chosen as the perfect human sacrifice. Set against the colorful backdrops of Haiti and the New Orleans French Quarter, Strange Gods, Strange Altars entertains the reader with high adventure and information about the mysterious, magical voodoo cults as the plot thickens and the tale of Beverly's peril reaches its haunting conclusion.
