Overview

From infancy and on the two girls were somehow different—some would say "strange," in fact. It wasn't that they didn't play nice with the other children for they did. Or were cruel to animals or cursed in some fashion, because they weren't. The pure and simple truth was that Marguerite and Lucy Ann were from a long line of witches. Not the bad kind that children often read about, or are told to, when they've been exceptionally naughty. But the best kind. Unfortunately, when you play havoc in the devil's backyard and are born to a higher purpose, sooner or later you'll draw attention—and not all of it will be good. As for the two girls, none other than Emilia, mistress to Perdition and the greatest of the pagan god Ashtoreth's daughters, has taken a sinister interest in them. Forcefully abducted at night by wicked men, they are taken to her lair where she descends upon them like "a spider to its fly." However, not all is as it seems. Having been schooled by their Grandmother Franklin in the art of witchcraft and deception, Lucy Ann and Marguerite prove to be more than a match for the phantasm. Meanwhile, some 2500 miles to the east—in the town of Danver, Massachusetts—work a genealogist, Sarah Nightly, and a graduate student by the name of David Brenner. Late one night, while researching old records, they happen onto a chapter in their town's history long since forgotten and purposely covered up—a sordid history of demonic worship and black magic. In an attempt to prevent any further discoveries and to secure a "seer stone" of great power believed to be in the possession of the young man, an unholy society of the unborn and unseen plot with a modern day "siren" to seduce him away from the "light," retrieve the stone, and, if possible, steal his soul. As Aneron (Emilia's sister) struggles to complete her mission, love raises its head placing her, David, and Sarah in great peril. Then, when all seems lost, an old Testament character, of dubious notoriety, appears as an "angel of light." Introducing himself as Jonah, he tells them of his previous struggles with the dark one and works to free them from the evil now surrounding them. As the battle for their souls ensues, David's love for Aneron and his loyalty to Sarah are soon put to the test. Will Jonah's call on heavenly protection be enough to shield them and the rest of the world from Mahan and his followers? Will love overcome all? Will good triumph over evil? Or will misery and woe descend upon the earth as was prophesied by the ancients? Only time will tell.
