Overview
Esther Potter, a resident of Salem, Maine, the daughter of a respected Unitarian minister, turned suddenly from being a sweet little old Christian grandmother to an evil master priestess of the ancient cult-god known as Baal-terra. Even though her neighbors knew the voices she claimed to hear in her head showed that she was obviously nuts, she still managed to find a following, a rather large one in fact. But once Esther’s group started sacrificing babies to this alleged god, her own sons and the town’s people banished Esther and her cult to the far-off western wilderness where they eventually settled down in the Western Reserve of Ohio. Unfortunately, this was the same area where many other adventurous pioneers were settling. Due to the lack of law enforcement, scanty communication, and absence of roads, these settlers weren’t able to do anything about the continuous kidnapping of their infants. Once secretly taken away in the night, these babies were never see again. Over the years, no one knew what was really happening, no one could ever guess as to what in truth, was actually happening. After a few years, the wilderness developed into small farming communities, crossroad neighborhoods, and the many, new connecting roads brought the settlers together. When the people from the recently incorporated town of, Unionport, discovered what Esther Potter and her commune of religious fanatics were doing, they called out the citizen army forming under George Washington. The crudely organized militia arrived and made quick work of the Satanists and burned Esther to the stake. As the flames consumed the priestess, she vowed a curse upon Unionport, upon the 10th generation of these settlers, that in a single fortnight, they would all die horrible deaths by fire. Thus, goes the story, mostly considered myth by the present generation, a quaint footnote into their own obscure but colorful history. The 10th generation has arrived and Esther Potter along with the demon spirits of her congregation is back. They have one and only one ambition, to destroy all the children of Unionport with fire, and they won’t waste any time at getting it done. Scientists see earthquake activity, natural phenomena causing the town to go up in flames. The residents know better, it’s Esther Potter. But key citizens of Unionport are not going to just surrender and let Esther have her way. As she attacks the community without mercy, key leaders including members of both the secular and religious worlds band together and face the powerful priestess with their own outstanding courage. Leading the charge is her own great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great granddaughter, the super wealthy matriarch of Unionport and main benefactor of the local university. In the university basement archival room, she happens upon a centuries old book written in Gaelic and with the help of others learns the ancient secrets of Esther’s primeval religion and what it takes to break her angry curse. However, going after a powerful demoniac like Esther will require a whole different approach at understanding reality including reserves of courage that no ordinary Unionport citizen currently possesses. The question that looms over this group of brave citizen is; will they be able to stop her and destroy her before the completion of the fortnight that she predicted?
