Overview
"Lady into Fox" is a short novel by David Garnett, first published in 1922. The story centers around a young couple, Richard and Sylvia Tebrick, who are happily married and living a peaceful life in the countryside. However, one day, Sylvia suddenly transforms into a fox while they are out walking in the woods. Despite this shocking transformation, Richard remains devoted to Sylvia and continues to care for her as she adapts to life as a wild animal. As the story unfolds, Richard struggles to reconcile his love for Sylvia with the challenges of her new life as a fox. Meanwhile, Sylvia becomes increasingly wild and distant, eventually running off into the woods with a male fox. "Lady into Fox" is a haunting and poetic exploration of love, transformation, and the boundaries between human and animal nature. It is a classic of early twentieth-century British literature and has been celebrated for its beautiful language and vivid descriptions of the English countryside.
