Overview
"Paolo, who finds himself at a pivotal point of his life, is taking stock of his youth; his youth that is slipping away. He realizes that life feels like a fistful of sand slipping through his fingers. At this crucial time, when he is desperately looking for meaning – just when he thinks that he created a vibrant, nostalgic inner space - he meets an enigmatic stranger, Dheen Al Iblith. It is a seemingly accidental encounter with a devil in love, which brings Paolo into contact with what is known in psychology as a "Shadow" - the unacknowledged, suppressed, part of the self, which is often associated with "evil". At the same time, the encounter leads Paolo to open his inner self to an unknown Force, which he calls "Eros", that is, the primordialcreative force, which is experienced by the human psyche as passion for life.Within Paolo, Eros seeks to express itself while there is still time - before all the sand slips through his fingers and before his life has been spent in vain. One could not guess what happens next, as Paolo looks at and engages in a dialogue with the Shadow. This interaction does not lead Paolo to hell, but to self-knowledge and spiritual liberation. The book’s steadily accelerating plot is rendering Paolo’s spiritual awakening as he is meandering through the parallel history of external events. This little book is best suited for anyone who is looking to discover themselves, not their own self as they have grown to know and acknowledge it, but their deep Self. The Self they have no inkling about its existence, but a Self they certainly miss."From Part I:"Once upon a time I met a devil. To say the truth, I did not immediately realize that he was a devil. He looked just as any other human but for his unusual transfixing gaze. When he looked straight at you, you could see the fires of the hell dancing behind the iris of his eyes- especially his left eye. His left eye was absolutely expressionless; it arrested your gaze like a deep lake or, better again, like a maelstrom that pulled you towards something neutral and undifferentiated; something not human and scary. He looked human thanks to his right eye, which gave off a familiar reflection - a human and, often, warm reflection."
