“What…?” began Jenna, looking at the others. She was thinking there must be some part in the ritual where the candles are blown out as someone had just done with hers. It was only when she noticed that Mina was too far away that she started to feel uneasy. She was sure someone had just been at her shoulder; she had felt the invisible wave of coolness push against her as if someone had walked by her quickly and very closely. The puff of air by her ear was tangible because it had moved her hair. Curls of smoke rose slowly, drawn to the center of the altar. The white wisps dissipated into thicker fibers and circled around with purpose. Jenna’s attention went to Will as he squeezed her hand too tightly. “Does anyone else see this?” he asked no one in particular. “Yes, we do,” Mina answered. All eyes were on the shape of a face forming in the smoke from Jenna’s extinguished candle. Jenna Stevens, with a gift for walking dreams, has grown in her magical abilities.
