For something that turned out to change your life in ways you could not imagine? That is what happened to Jack Thomas when he set out to hike California's Mount Whitney. At 14,505 feet, Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48 states. Jack had made this extremely steep ascent twice before in his life, but now at the ripe old age of 85, friends and loved ones all cautioned him not to attempt this difficult 13-mile climb. Ignoring what turned out to be good advice, Jack says goodbye to the love of his life, at the Whitney Portal Trailhead one faithful morning at 4:30 am. Along the way he stumbles upon ancient secrets that become both a blessing and a curse in his life.
