Overview

Maddie Holiday Von Stark, an ex-FBI agent, is now rebuilding her life in her small Wisconsin town after a near fatal medical condition caught in the nick of time by a poisonous spider bite. Although beguiled by her large family, she finds solace in the halls and ghostly corners of the old historic mansion built by her great, great, great grandfather. But her quiet existence and picturesque life teaching at a local Catholic school is soon threatened by a series of brutal serial killings. Torn between the incompetent local police and the intrusive presence of her old partner from the Bureau, Maddie finds herself right in the middle of an investigation. She might be the only one to solve the mystery with the help of her personal demon B. Who may or may not exist. You decide. "Reading Von Stark's prose is like watching Shaun White skate a half-pipe; she rockets out sentences in looping digressions of stream-of-consciousness to the gnarly edge of spinning off into the void of irrelevance, then just powers it back to the spine of the narrative like she's got it on a fucking tractor-beam. Truly breathtaking!" ~ Daniel Knauf, creator, Carnivàle (HBO), producer-writer, The Blacklist (NBC) Deeply strange, disorienting and dreamlike, THE WIDOW'S GAME is a thriller unlike any other; Von Stark blurs lines between fact and fiction, breaking the rules, extending a long middle finger to conventional narrative and sculpting one hell of a weird literary world. Whatever she is...there's no one else doing what she does. - Chris Alexander, Editor in Chief, Fangoria Magazine "Maddie Von Stark's work crackles with energy, passion, poetry, and take-no-prisoners badass beauty: it's raw unchained prose delivered with millennial wit and fury, and threaded with soulful style. Her voice is unique and sometimes startling in its deft and haunting perceptions. It's going to be very interesting to watch this girl mature as an artist and all-around creative force. I'm bringing popcorn." Craig Spector, Author, The Light at the End, The Bridge
