""The Amber Witch"" is a novel written by J.G. Schweidler and translated into English by Mary Howitt. The story is set in 17th century Germany and follows the trial of a young woman named Maria Schweidler, who is accused of being a witch. Maria is the daughter of a wealthy amber trader and lives in a small village on the coast of the Baltic Sea. When strange events begin to occur in the village, including the disappearance of a child and the sudden illness of several villagers, Maria is accused of using her powers to cause harm. The novel is written in the form of a memoir, with Maria recounting her experiences leading up to her trial. She describes her childhood, her relationship with her father, and her eventual love affair with a young man named Gerdt. As Maria's trial progresses, she must rely on her own strength and the support of her friends and family to prove her innocence. ""The Amber Witch"" is a thrilling tale of love, betrayal, and the fight for justice in a time of superstition and fear. From Forward: The most interesting trial for witchcraft ever known.
