Overview
P.I. Myriad ‘North’ Holland normally handles routine cases. Cheating spouses, insurance fraud, etc. A far cry from her years as a detective. But the nightmares from then still haven’t stopped. She receives a strange call that lures her into the small town of West Capital where she finds herself at odds with the law. She's hunting down an immortal cult leader with a penchant for arson. Together her and her new partner, Nester Luck, find themselves in their oldest nightmares and soon realize that the only way out is through. Set against a record-breaking heatwave in the early 2000’s this thriller will appeal to readers who enjoy fast pacing, strong character focus, and light magical elements. The story focuses primarily on the two leads – Myriad ‘North’ Holland, a detective-turned-private-eye, who as a character subverts the classic trope of gruff, cynical private eye by being brawny but inquisitive. Think Colombo meets Frank Barlow. She’s got a few secrets and not the least of which is the disease turning her body on itself. And Nester Luck, a young man with golden eyes who serves as the magical center of the story. Nester plays the opposite of Myriad. Where she is straight forward, he is shy. Where she fights, he would prefer to observe. He is out of his league with the day to day workings of an investigation and requires Myriad for such a thing. He helps Myriad because his father spent most of his life trying to bring Abel Martins, the immortal cult leader, to justice and failed. Nester feels it is his burden now. The magical elements in the story are light but well pronounced. The most consistent through-line being Nester’s ability to instantly detect a lie.
