Overview
No one remembers how or why the world ended. The fog stole the memories of who they were and where they came from. They stare into the fires, waiting for something, maybe death. Ærin wakes up to find herself sitting by a small fire. There are others with her, all of them pale-faced, caught in a daze. The darkness is oppressive; a thick and foreboding fog closes in around her and the others. She can't remember if she knows any of the people she's with; none of them recall who they were. All they know is the stifling reality of the fog, and that they must keep the fires going or suffer a fate worse than death. There are other fires in the thirty-foot stone corridor called Thirsting Gulch, other people burning their possessions to keep the flames alive. They don't know why they do it, exactly; they just do.Fear governs them. They don't truly understand what it is that they're afraid of, only that it waits for them. Out there, within the fog.Why are they trapped, there, in Thirsting Gulch? What happened to them? Who were they before? How can Ærin hope to survive if she can't trust her own mind, if the memories wait just beyond her reach, out there, within the fog?
