Overview
12,000 years ago an immortal being from another dimension is projected into our world after losing a battle with others of his race. He is benign; they are malevolent. His form here is that of a sleeping human who requires no sustenance, but cannot be awakened. If he ever is awakened, a physical portal will be opened from his universe, allowing his enemies to devastate our world. The tribe members who find him refer to him as the “Sleeping God”. Through extrasensory means he recruits a group of 7 men to protect him. He is able to confer on them near immortality, except for physical injury, and to communicate to them the need for his protection. They are called the Parekoi. From their dimension his enemies psychically recruit three humans of their type, whose compulsion is to kill the Parekoi and awaken the Sleeping God. They are called the Cherkash. Over the next 12,000 years the Parekoi are almost defeated in many places, but always manage to flee before the Cherkash can capture the Sleeping God. Eventually they disguise themselves as mendicant monks, and immigrate to the new world. Twin brothers are born in 1967 in the small town of San Felipe, California. Mark Chapple shows an early interest in science, while his brother Dennis is interested in psychic phenomena. Mark is drawn toward medicine, particularly sleep research, while Dennis continues to develop his psychic talents. They drift far apart. Their long-held beliefs are turned upside down, as they become involved in the 12,000 year old mystery. Mark and Dennis unknowingly have been under lifelong mind control by the Cherkash, and are now forced to resolve their differences, as they battle to stay alive.
