Overview
Ruthven, Carmilla, and Dracula: three of the most archetypal vampires in literature, a trinity of evil brought together in one blood-curdling volume. The Vampyre (1819), John Polidori’s groundbreaking tale of the Byronic and sinister Lord Ruthven, introduced the world to the suave, sophisticated, and seductive vampire. Carmilla (1872), Le Fanu’s haunting novella of female vampirism, presents the story of a young woman confronted with unspeakable horror and forbidden desires. Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), the most famous vampire novel of all time, relates the bloody adventures of Count Dracula, King of the Vampires, as he stalks among an unsuspecting England.
