Includes an active table of contents for easy navigation.Matthew Phipps Shiell (1865-1947) was a British writer of Afro-Caribbean descent. He was born on the island of Montserrat in the West Indies and educated at Harrison College in Barbados. Shiell moved to England in 1885, eventually adopting Shiel as his pen name. After working as a teacher and translator he broke into the fiction market with a series of short stories published in various magazines.
