Overview

Claire Lorraine Burnstien should have it all as a highly successful author, but something is keeping her back. Not only has she struggled with a long history of mental illness and abuse, she was also a victim of a mass kidnapping – memories of which she has never recovered. Her only clues as the flashback-feelings, what the police and her parents have told her, and a mysterious scar on her stomach. Buried deep within a depression she calls, “the Grave,” Claire finds herself running from demons she could never escape – quite literally. Vincent Nightshade is cold and cruel; a vampire that has seen too much. But something draws him to Claire that night he finds her curled up, broken and beaten, in an alleyway suffering from a psychotic break. He takes her back to Rose Alley Apartments where she is placed under the care of himself and Claire’s life-long friend, Cher. The man swears to himself that he will never act upon the feelings of lust and affection he has towards her, to reminded of another woman stolen from his grasp decades ago, and too detached from the world to be concerned with anything other than his work for the underground order of the Black Coats and his barriers. Soon, however, he discovers that she is unknowingly harboring the secrets to finding and defeating the demon that took everything from him – and Claire. Thomas was thought to be just a product of Claire’s diagnosed schizophrenia – a merciless, controlling, and possessive entity that torments her with both words and actions, but after her attempted suicide it becomes clear that he may be more real than anybody thought. The hallucination, in fact, is a monster leeching off her mind, waiting for the moment when he can incarnate a body with the help of a cult – the Last Sun – and burn down the world with everything, and Claire, in it. Time is running out for our main protagonist, and if Vincent can’t save them from the creature named “Thomas,” then neither will ever find peace and escape from their eternal run with the night. A story of horror, romance, and resilience, Running with the Night is sure to open the eyes of mature audiences to a world of wonder and darkness, magic and demons, and three unfortunate people bound to blow us all away.
