…Some roads are best left unexplored. In Massachusetts, there are many long, less-traveled roads carving through the lush wooded landscape. Most of these roads offer only the serenity of a quiet drive between the clamoring cities and towns nearby. One road, however, offers no serenity for the traveler. The locals know to avoid the road cutting through Salem Wood, although they are not sure why. The unknowing may happen upon it by mistake but cannot deny its powerful pull; like something out there hated them with a vengeance but wanted them just the same. About half way down this road is a cobblestone wall just barely peeking out of the brush. Follow it about a quarter-mile and you may see a break in it if you are paying attention. This is Meetinghouse Road; a long forsaken dirt road that no one should dare venture; an eerie passage, to an evil place. Legend has it that in 1692, during the Salem Witch Trials, the tiny village of Presidge was unlawfully (and unknowingly) tried, convicted, and sentenced to death by burning for the housing of witches and practices of black magic. Although, the towns-folk had all perished, their cursed souls refused to leave the wood that was once their home. For centuries, they took their revenge on anyone who dared cross the cobblestone wall. As time went on the legend was passed off as mere folklore—and how legends and folklore go, there will always be those who disbelieve; those who temp fate and cross the boundaries. There will always be those who venture passed the cobblestone wall seeking exploration, an exploration that may lead them unwillingly towards answers concerning The Haunting of Salem Wood.
