Abby Dearborn, fresh from a divorce from a violent husband, moves south to the small town of Labiche, Indiana, to take up a teaching post and start a new life with her son, Luke. The town appears to have everything that Abby needs, a good neighbour in Hal, whose job she is filling following his retirement, friendly people and a total contrast to the fast pace of Chicago life. What Abby does not realise that Labiche has a secret, a dark secret, a house that is unknown to the adults, and all too familiar to the children. Labiche is a nexus point between two worlds and occasionally the front door to this dark house will open. It will call to a child, invite them in and spit them out. Most of the time. . Some children the house will not let go, it will swallow them up and toss them to another world. When the house calls Luke, Abby discovers that she is not the woman she thought she was and something that has lain dormant in her being emerges. Abby Dearborn becomes someone far different and she will face a terror beyond her darkest nightmares.
