Overview

On a summer night in 1966, in the wee hours of the morning, pre-teen Pete Hanson is found sitting on the floor of his family's living room having an intense dialogue with someone only he can see. Chalked up as a case of sleepwalking, he is ushered back into bed by his widower father. But in the days that follow; Pete becomes convinced that his meeting with this mysterious entity was, in fact, all too real. Desperate to remember their conversation, he enlists the aid of his best friend, Doug McHenry, and the unwitting Alan Stevens in discovering the identity of his visitor and the purpose behind their encounter. But their attempt in recreating the event goes terribly wrong. Doug and Alan are seriously injured and Pete is taken over by an unseen force. Now plagued with nightmarish visions and remorse over his friends' injuries, Pete struggles to retain his sanity as he begins to understand the purpose behind everything that has occurred. With the help of friends Melanie Davis and "boy genius" Phillip Geiger, he comes to the realization that he is the key behind a desperate struggle between the forces of good and evil. Banded together, this small cadre of friends now race to save their families, and their world, from total annihilation. But there is a traitor in their midst; an evil as old as the universe that will stop at nothing to thwart their efforts. With time running out, Pete and his friends must overcome this evil and the intervention of a secret society if they are to be successful in saving their world. Even if it means that one of them must make the ultimate sacrifice.
