When an unknown virus threatened life as we knew it, the world rolled the dice on an unproven vaccine and lost big. Humanity suffers a massive fall into darkness and sinister fairytales crawl out of the shadows assuming power over all. A young human slave is just trying to survive while keeping her dignity in tack, but they all want her. She has something that they all desire and they are willing to take it at any cost. One man has the power to change the new world with her help, but this human has a secret even she doesn’t know. When the only thing he loves is in danger, will he risk all he had planned to save her?_________________________________________________________________________________________________This life has become so mundane. My father and I have accomplished it all by taking everything from anyone we could. Spending centuries reveling in the misery of others, but it’s all just boring now. Immortality sounds amazing until you have tasted every forbidden fruit. At some point it all just turns sour and you long for an end that will never come. However, those of us that are damned would choke on vile fear in the face of death. For those of us with no way to salvation the end only signifies a cold and lonely finality. The human clock moves fast, a blink from first cry to ash, but for those like me, time is a burden. Weighing on us, taunting us to test its boundaries and laughing when we do. For us with only a beginning and no end, there is no happily ever after. Eventually, all joyous moments fade to darkness and deceit. So I create chaos, destruction and fear to satisfy my dead heart. There is never a shortage of misery to exploit. The scent of my private guard approaching hits my senses before his footfalls enter my space.“Sir, you have company.”“Who is it?” I groan but already knowing the answer.“A Mistress Chauncey sir.”“Let her in.”Light clicks of heels sound behind me, but I felt her presence long before the notification. She smells of an innocence lost long ago. By my side through the ages, never wavering through my destruction. She claims I have a good heart, but I know the truth. I have no heart.“Hello son.”I wasn’t born to her, but I wish I had been. My mother is a weak doll sitting at my father’s side while he ****s a different wh*** every night.“Hello Red. Why are you here?”“I had a vision.”“So? How does this concern me? The future will be just another series of unfortunate events with my father and I leading the charge. I don’t need a sneak peek.” I snap, turning to meet her soft features with a sharp glare she doesn’t deserve.“I think this one will interest you…” “It won’t. Leave me.” I wave my hand dismissively and give her my back.“Ok, but does the unfortunate usually bring the one thing you’ve longed for?”“And what is it exactly that you think I long for?”“The one thing you want that can’t be obtained through power? You have no interest in finally warming your cold, empty soul and give meaning to your existence? I know you long for that part of you that has been missing your whole life, and you have been silently pleading for it to find you.” Her feet shuffle closer to me as she speaks and I bristle at the intrusion.“And you think you know what it is? You’ve seen this in a vision? HA! I’m not missing anything, I’ve had it all, lost it all and had it all again. It’s all unremarkable.”“Even redemption? Even the light is so bright others follow without knowing why. The world as you know it is at its infancy of metamorphosis and you don’t want a glimpse? Ok, but you’ll seek me out soon.”She turns, her footsteps leading away from me.“Wait.”
