Overview
Millwood was a good place to be when the dead rose. It was small, isolated, and easy to defend. The survivors there forged a community, weathered what came, and began to prosper. But then they ran out of food. Now, Millwood is sending five men to the neighboring town of Rundberg, a place ruled by three thousand living dead, to find enough food to save their community. Five against three thousand? They don't stand a chance. Nate Southard's Scavengers has got everything fans of the zombie genre crave. Huge cannibalistic crowds of the undead. Violent, almost continuous action. Mounting paranoia and dread. And if he had stopped there it would probably have been enough to secure Scavengers a spot on the short list of great zombie fiction. But Southard's real gift is showing us the psychology of the regular guy - guys like you and me. Not since Richard Matheson have we had a writer so adept at dangling the average American guy on the end of a rope so we can watch him twitch and turn in the wind. Scavengers is great stuff! – Joe Mckinney, author of The Dead World Series Scavengers is a wild, violent, and ultimately heart wrenching journey through a zombie-infested landscape. The action is relentless, and the sharp prose provides the reader an unflinching look at the grisly world the book’s characters must navigate. Southard excels at creating the epic scope of an apocalypse, while maintaining the intimate and often devastating emotional notes of an individual’s fight for survival. He shows us what we’ve lost, and he reminds us what we are fighting for. - Lee Thomas, Lambda Literary Award- and Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The German and Butcher’s Road. "With Scavengers, Southard breathes fresh life into the zombie genre, setting those blackened hearts beating and thick, fevered blood pumping through rotting veins. This one moves like a bullet and will have you reading straight through the night. Just check under the bed when you're done..." -Ronald Malfi, author of SNOW
