Overview
Amber, a child with an incredible secret, stares anxiously at the giant Gallant – her new protector. For she is hunted by a group of dangerous men led by Kalen: a cold-blooded killer whose icy stare could freeze the Sun and whose lethal skills are unmatched by all but one: the one who abandoned him. The one who would pay dearly should their paths ever cross again. By Kalen’s side stands Atheles, a mountain of a man burdened by an oath he swore long ago to the father of the man he now protects: a vow made moments before his axe brought an end to that warrior’s life. And now Atheles wallows in desperation as his ever-growing belief that he watches over the devil eats away at him. He waits, hopeful for one who might be kind enough to slay him and end his miserable obligation. But who could grant what he desires? For Atheles is a champion of the arena and a force to be reckoned with. Dallious, Amber’s old protector, chooses to step aside as he has finally found peace and love, although it is not yet returned. For his love is forbidden, as the object of his desire is a Sister of Faith – the woman responsible for raising Amber and who resists his persistence despite her conflicted heart. The new protector chosen to safeguard the child is Gallant, a simple woodsman by trade but Dallious has seen great potential in him. A terrible rage burns within the giant man that allows him to overcome situations most others would run from. And more than that, he knows him to be a man of his word – and he has sworn to protect Amber. But is Dallious naïve in believing peace will last? And will his forbidden love ever blossom? A tale of heroic deeds and altered reality veiled by a dark fantasy. Its characters, both flawed and magnificent, are forever changed not only by the choices they make but by the circumstances surrounding them. And through it all there is a question that begs an answer: does the light of innocence shine to save or destroy them…?
