Overview

What links the murder of a Victorian theatre artiste to death threats against a modern day film star? When hypnotherapist Simon Stafford’s client undergoes a past life regression he assures the actress it is merely her subconscious at play. Yet his friend, Catherine Whyte, proves otherwise when she finds evidence that the Victorian performer actually existed. A brilliant psychic-medium, Catherine Whyte believes there is a karmic link between the two thespians and that to save the life of the modern day actress they will have to discover the motive behind the murder of her Victorian counterpart. Their investigations will take them into a dark backstage world of sex and murder spanning two centuries. ‘Duality’ is the first of the Stafford & Whyte supernatural thrillers. A bit of background: ‘Duality’ introduces Stafford & Whyte; a crime solving team able to delve where no other detectives can reach. The series represents a new and exciting type of thriller. Taut, with well constructed plots, the books are based on the concept that evil knows no boundaries of time and place. The heroine, Catherine Whyte, would say that is her karma to be a force of the light, fighting evil by understanding its sources; but then she is a brilliant psychic medium whose intuition connects her to the spirit world. Her friend, Simon Stafford, thinks the concept of the paranormal is a load of bunk. A hypnotherapist who works at the pragmatic end by stopping people from smoking, he wouldn’t recognise a ghost if it jumped out in front of him and said, “Boo!” Despite this his mastery of hypnosis will help the friends as they battle dark forces and resolve crimes that have their routes buried in history. Past life regression allows Stafford access to people long dead, although he remains convinced that what ensues is merely a way for the subconscious to express itself. In this, as in so much else, Catherine will be his guide. Stafford is more worldly than Catherine and whilst he can always be relied upon to do the right thing he has a weakness when it comes to women. Catherine is frequently exasperated at his choices of girlfriend, knowing in her heart that she is the right woman for him. ‘Duality’ is fast moving, full of surprises and yet places more emphasis on characters than the usual thriller. Early reviewers have said that it would make a great film or TV series. Set in Victorian London as well as the modern day it brings to life the city through both ages. Convincingly merging two stories into one this supernatural tale will excite you, scare you, make you laugh and have you willing the two protagonists to succeed. The author, Graham Wheal, writes to entertain. Expert in his subject, having practised as a qualified hypnotherapist for eight years and also attended many courses on psychic mediumship at the College of Psychic Studies, he immerses his readers in modern day stories skilfully intertwined with ones set in the past. He has the ability to have readers turning the page only to feel a sense of loss when they reach the final one! For those so afflicted book 2 of the supernatural thriller series will be available on Amazon e-books in September 2013. Once again the book is set in the modern day but this time the historic context will be provided by wartime London. Buy ‘Duality’; the first Stafford & Whyte supernatural thriller now.
