The dense, surrounding environment—river, sun, wind—has a striking and threatening character that oppresses the friends."The Wendigo" is a story of two Scotsmen – Simpson, a student, and his uncle, Dr. Cathcart, an author of a book on collective hallucination, on a moose-hunting trip along with other characters. During the first night camping, one of them smells a strange and frightful odor. That same night, Simpson wakes to find one of his companions in terror from something outside the tent.
