Overview
The Ahnenerbe Society was a Nazi think-tank. Like the Thule and Vril Societies, its members searched the globe in search of the most powerful spiritual rituals and artifacts of Aryan myth. Some of their findings now seem ridiculous, others, such as video recording of pagan rites, massive rune stones and the Eye of Azazel, are still sought by occultists, madmen and antiquarians. At the height of the power of the Third Reich, three Ahnenerbe members were on an expedition in what is now Iraq, supported by SS commandos and Brandenburg operatives. On Mount Azazel, they searched for the Stone, reputedly a crystal, a black stone called the Eye of Azazel, which formed when the fallen angel was cast from Heaven. They found it, amidst many deaths. Each hoped to harness the power of the Stone for their own objectives, but its effects were unpredictable. Many decades later, most of the Ahnenerbe are long since dead. However, two still live, and focus their vast resources upon the search for the Stone. New cabals have formed, each with its own tactics, including one financed by a Mexican drug cartel leader who sees his own death fast approaching. The search continues, with new antagonists, victims and strategies. Twisted paths lead through sacrifice, lust and exploitation to the Eye of Azazel. The plot includes correspondences to Shakespeare's Tempest and deals with the Tarot, money laundering, stock market manipulation, the occult, drug dealing and addiction.
