Overview

"I am descended from an exceedingly ancient race... We have preserved the old traditions... Our lives and habits are different from those of the mortals of today." Returning to his ancestral home at Little Fuddleton, Sir Ashleigh Carruthers finds that the countryside is being terrorised by an alarming spectre - a veiled woman, who brings death and madness in her wake. A startling confession from the local vicar reveals the insidious nature of the woman's ancient curse, and Sir Ashleigh joins forces with a London nurse who cares for him after his own encounter with the creature. Together, the pair set out to defeat the fiendish woman in black once and for all... M.Y. Halidom was the pseudonym of Alexander Huth (1838-1914). Originally published in 1906 and drawing playfully on aspects of penny dreadful romance, fin de siècle gothic and Victorian popular melodrama, this little-known Edwardian vampire novel is a fantastical delight.
