Overview
Two years have passed since the introduction of the Werewolf Rory Dungarven and his vampiric daughter Angelique, and much has changed. Angelique, now mated to the Vampire Nicholas Von Goethe, has chosen to remain in Manhattan while her father, along with his new mate Deanna, have relocated to the property Rory purchased in the Rocky Mountains. Deanna gives birth to a set of twins, a boy she names Angus and a daughter named Lunena.Angelique is besieged by the soul of the first Vampire named Nammuar, who's intent is to live once more. Angelique, as the Daywalker is the vessel he has awaited. He attempts to seduce her cooperation by encouraging her to claim her blood legacy as The Chosen, which is written of in Vampire lore passed down as the Prophecy of Rule. This ancient text states that one day a Daywalker would emerge and reunite the Counsel of Seven, and subsequently preform the Rite of Ascension there by establishing the Daywalker as the supreme ruler of all Vampires. Secretly Nammuar is planning to steal Angelique's body during the ceremony, and through ageless magic's establish an endless darkness where Vampires rule all living things. Angelique pretends to comply, though she has an agenda of her own, one that will save her family from the destruction eternal darkness would bring. In secret she travels to Europe where she goes about establishing herself as the Chosen. She wastes no time forcing the seven heads of the clans into compliance by demonstrating her superiority through the slaughter of various clan members. She establishes her first law, that no Vampire will prey upon the innocent, needless to say it is instantly a very unpopular rule causing a split throughout the vampiric world. By some, she is accepted as the Chosen and rightful Queen, but to others, she has proven herself to be a deadly enemy.Rory and Deanna, in their mountain retreat, discover the lifeless body of their nanny. Believing this to be a direct attack on his family, Rory reaches out to Angelique, when he can not get in touch with her through conventional means, he decides to travel to Manhattan where he just misses his daughter's departure. Together, he and Nicholas follow her to London where they plan to discover what is going on. The Angelique they encounter is not the beloved daughter and wife they know, and the encounter almost proves fatal. Nammuar seizes control of Angelique's consciousness and attempts to kill her father and husband.Angelique rescues a mortal girl from a vampiric club and feels strangely drawn to her. The girl, Nona Wittnauer is an orphan, alone on the streets and Angelique recognizes herself in the child's plight. Much as her father instantly decided to rescue her, Angelique sets about rescuing this young girl as well. Soon, not only is she forced to defend her new charge from rouge clan members that wish to hurt her, but from Nammuar as well. Nona, as it turns out, is a very gifted empath capable of interacting with Nammuar's soul. With so very much at stake, the lives of her family and this new child as well, Angelique turns to her father for help. She, Rory, and Nicholas set about creating a plan that will either result in the successful crowning of Angelique as Queen, or the total destruction of their family. With both ally's and enemies on the Counsel of Seven, the outcome is far from certain and the future unwritten.
