Overview
Can a house actually choose who is to live under her roof? Can she communicate with her favourites and bring them home? Does a house have a soul? Can she tell right from wrong? Is it possible that she can see justice done? But would it be safe to live in such a place? And when she becomes angry and all hell breaks loose, what can one do to escape her? That is exactly what the Trefoil children must try and discover, if they aren't to be murdered in their beds. The ghost of a cuckoo, cracks in the walls that heal themselves, suits of armour which come to life, are but a few of the tricks up the sleeves of Hesker Hall. She will make known what she wishes to be done, and God help those who are foolish enough to ignore her. They have no idea of just what she is capable of. Hesker Hall is not a house to be trifled with - not if one lives within her four walls. Rawston Trefoil, the children's uncle, imagines he can do as he pleases. His folly sets in motion a string of events so macabre that he almost loses his mind. And if he thinks that his secret is safe behind closed doors, and that he can be Master of Hesker Hall, he is sadly mistaken. The house has other ideas.
