Overview

Money Island, a low hammock island that sits in the middle of the Intracoastal Waterway just off of Wilmington, hides a mysterious secret. And it hides it well. Money Island gets its name from the legend that the notorious pirate William Kidd once hid his treasure there, buried under a stand of trees, and guarded by a trusted lieutenant, when he sailed back to New York to face charges of murder and piracy. He never made it back, and the treasure was never found.Except, maybe, in a way, it was. The Sprunt family owned the island. When family friend and international traveler and benevolent missionary Dr. George Worth would come home from his years of service, he would often return with a map he conveniently “found”, in order to lead the young children of the Sprunt family on a treasure hunt on the island under the light of the moon. But there may be a bit more to the story than that. There very well may be treasure there, still guarded by those trusted sailors that Captain Kidd left behind long before Wilmington even existed. And there’s a good reason no one goes looking for it.This is a Spooky Little Book, by the author of Haunting The Cape Fear Coast, Joe Sledge. A small book allows for fans and new readers to discover just how fun these great ghost stories are. There are currently four books in his Haunting North Carolina series, which also includes Haunting The Outer Banks, In The Shadows Of The Pines, and Haunting The Carolina Coast. This story, Money Island, appears here in its entirety, printed from the original book. If you like this story, you’ll love the other ones in Haunting The Cape Fear Coast. Some are a little bit scarier than this one, others a bit more fun, and they all are incredibly entertaining. So go ahead, enjoy a Spooky Little Book.
