Overview

This is a story with a David and Goliath theme that is set in the mid-1960s in the agricultural paradise of Yakima, Washington. Mick O’Hara is an autistic boy, who is the son and nephew of Irish brothers, Roy and Ben O’Hara, arborists who work for Reggie Kenyon, owner of the famous and historic Wolf Castle Orchard. The brothers gambled one night at the Alaskan Corral nightclub with the hopes of winning enough money to buy their own land in order to break the spell of the Irish being indentured to English landlords for centuries. Each brother lost $3,000 during the evening. However, an associate who works for the man who owns the club, offered to forgive their debt if the men would grant the owner two favors. Once the brothers said yes to the undefined favors, their troubles became a domino affect because the associate was a spokesperson for the Tacoma mob.Assaults, arson and murder were the result of the mob coercing the owners of The Golden Tiger Chinese Restaurant and Zammy’s Gun and Ammo to sell their businesses to the organized crime family in Tacoma. Although Lt. Paganelli knew the mob threatened the business owners, he was at a loss to prove it in a court of law especially when the key witness, Lily Song-Sung-Blu, disappeared from the trial. When the O’Hara brothers refused to be pulled into the mob’s crimes and grant the favors, the goons kidnapped Mick and finally his father and uncle had to come through with their obligations.Mick has powers to see the dead and always tells the truth even when he shocks his father and uncle by describing the appearance of his dead mother who stands by the mom tree, Reggie’s wolf pups by the creek and the floating Lily-in-the-baby-pear-tree.Sheba, from down the road, steps into the story as Mick’s caregiver when he is injured and shows him her powers and teaches him how to use more of his powers of psychokinetics, moving objects. In the finale, there is a showdown between Mick, who acts like David of the biblical story, Sheba, her mother and grandmother battling the undefeated mob, who represent the giant Goliath, in the same biblical story.
