Overview
This 600-plus page volume of nightmarish horror contains a terror/ fantasy masterpiece by William Hope Hodgson, the man the great H.P. Lovecraft modeled his work after. This unforgettable novel is "The Night Land," which is a classic horror novel first published in 1912. As a work of fantasy it belongs to the Dying Earth subgenre, or today's apocalyptic genre. The ground-breaking significance of "The Night Land" was recognized by its later revival in paperback by Ballantine Books, which republished the work in two parts as the forty-ninth and fiftieth volumes of its celebrated Ballantine Adult Fantasy series in July, 1972. In H. P. Lovecraft's essay, "Supernatural Horror in Literature," the horror master himself describes the novel as "one of the most potent pieces of macabre imagination ever written." About the Author William Hope Hodgson (Nov. 15, 1877 – Apr. 1918) was a prolific English author who wrote in the Gothic/sci-fi style, which the great H.P. Lovecraft said greatly influenced him. Early in Hodson's career he wrote unique and dark poetry, although few of his poems were published during his lifetime. He was also a talented photographer and a bodybuilder. He died in World War I at the age of 40. I hope you enjoy the strange and horrifying trip this novel takes you on as much as I did. It is truly a nightmare that seeps into your inner soul.
