Each follower does his or her part to keep Sammy safe and gently approach Connor about his grief. However, it is the outcast, Sakura, who challenges Connor to acknowledge the hard truths about Sammy and himself. As much as he resists Sakura’s challenges, it is ultimately her defiance that uncovers the lifesaving cure for Sammy’s cancer.
