Kiki Grant has had a rough couple of years. When her best friend Ronnie Martin approached Kiki to help her investigate her grandmother's forty year old murder Kiki jumped at the chance to help her dear friend. What she could not have foreseen was that Ronnie would be killed and she herself would be placed in harms way. From the afterlife, Ronnie contacted Kiki to persuade her to track down the killer. In a wild car chase the killer's car went over a steep cliff and into the ocean. Breathing a sigh of relief she thought her life would finally calm down but she was wrong.Kiki, her husband Dutch Warner and Ronnie's husband Ray were owners of a Monterey, California bar called Monkey Nuts. The bar was a favorite hang out of the foursome and where Ronnie's grandmother first made an attempt to contact her to help solve her murder. After Ronnie's death, Kiki never felt the same towards the bar or her husband. It is here that Kiki discovers the truth behind Dutch's secrets and the reason why he no longer seems to love her. When her estranged husband hires a new bartender and her former lover, Jason Bartlett, mysterious things begin to happen. Fearing for her marriage and her sanity she turns to her new neighbor Cadence Weslo for help and friendship. The two get along famously and before long are practically inseparable. In fact, they look so much alike that many people accuse them of being sisters. Through Cadence, Kiki learns to lower her guard and start to trust people again. When her home and car are fire bombed she sets out to investigate why someone is out to get her and destroy her world. Digging deeper into the inner workings of Monkey Nuts, she finds herself face to face with her husband's past and she finds out that all is not what is suppose to be. Suspecting everyone at the bar and her new found friend Cadence of trying to kill her she turns to Ronnie's husband Ray as her only trusted friend. Together they join forces to try to unravel the tangled web of lies and deception all around her. Unfortunately, her constant digging puts Ray into danger and she is left no other choice but to join forces with Jason to help solve the latest rounds of murder and mayhem. What they uncover will change her life forever and is only the beginning. Can she solve the secrets of Monkey Nuts before she and the bar are destroyed?
