London: 2012 For two years the Rift has snaked across the sky, an open gateway to Hell that encircles the globe. Demons walk the streets under licence and Infernal ambassadors barter with nations great and small, Britain included. Policing the great metropolis of London was never easy but it used to be only the criminal underworld that coppers had to deal with. Now ne’er-do-wells with nothing to lose but their souls have discovered a whole new way to get away with everything from petty theft to murder…or maybe just a really, really old one. Detective Chief Inspector Victor Morgan works on the front line against this demonic incursion into crime, but it’s a losing battle. There’s an unanswered question on the world’s lips: If Hell is real, then where is Heaven? There’s no evidence of an equal goodness in the world and Vic knows this more than most. When a series of grotesque sacrificial killings come to light, Vic is left little time to mourn his lot. All the signs point to the emergence of another ‘wannabe’, but one so powerful that even the Dukes of Hell are concerned. So when the Home Office informs him that their infernal counterparts are sending a liaison to assist in the investigation, Vic has no choice but to welcome the friendly face of Hell into the heart of the Metropolitan Police. But he isn’t prepared for just how friendly...
