Gilberto Bonci, a fifty-year-old man from Tuscany, finally realizes his lifelong dream: moving to the High North. But there, after getting dumped by his Norwegian partner he met in Italy, he is soon forced to start everything over. One day, at a friend’s shop, an old client notices a close remembrance with Erling, the scion of the noble Shakke family. Driven by curiosity, Gilberto starts to investigate… but the Shakkes seem to have disappeared: they have all been dead for years, no heirs, no trace except for villa Ingrid, their historic, now decadent, residence in the swamp on the lake.
