Overview
This novel that tells the story of 15 year old Frederich Joyden’s haunted life told via his diary, hence the title ‘Diary of a Haunted Life’, has been split into 15 parts and are available to read on Kindle via Amazon. Frederich is a smart young man for his age, which he attributes to the many books he reads and has been reading since he was about six years of age. Though he still naturally thinks mostly like a teenage boy in regards to how he sees the World, the ability to see and hear things that others do not, such as ghosts, creatures of the non-living, and other supernatural entities have aged him mentally and emotionally. This maturity beyond his age is often apparent in his diary writing.Though Frederich (or Freed, which he prefers, though hardly anyone calls him this) is genuinely a nice boy, he has few friends most likely because others his age and even those older than him see him as odd, as strange, if not a bit creepy. This can be explained by Frederich’s habit of often staring behind people, as if someone was there who they were not aware of. From Frederich’s point of view there really is someone there, who he calls a “follower”. Unfortunately for the poor victim of the follower, they do not see, hear, or feel that they have this person following them around waiting for an opportunity to … well, I will leave that to Frederich to explain via his diary entries. There is one young man who is a good friend of Frederich and accepts his special abilities to see and hear the dead as no different than knowing someone who can make a great cappuccino. This friend goes by the name Henry, and as Frederich explains, Henry just happens to have a diagnosis of autism, but to Frederich, Henry is just Henry. Though this diary is fictional, it does have the addition of some real unexplained events that have happened in the author’s 150 year old cottage, based in the same beautiful city in which Frederich lives, Dunedin, New Zealand. These events that are written into the story include the appearance and photographic evidence of an “Orb” and the mention of the many times that locked cupboards have become unlocked despite no one even touching the only key that unlocks them.
