I thought I was nothing more than a pile of poo, unworthy of love. Raised the golden boy in a religious home, I was taught my only worth was found in Christ...until a church lady discovered my secret. I was gay! And all the sudden, I was no longer gold. Overnight I had become the spawn of Satan all because of my sexuality, of which--up till that point--I had been suppressing. Now I was refuse and in need of getting my act together just so Jesus could love me again. Then I got deathly ill with cancer. * In a near death experience I encountered a vision of Jesus Christ that forever changed my life and my sense of self-worth. Jesus loves me just the way that I am. As I embraced my new found gold status with Christ and I shared by supernatural experiences of healing and my full recovery from cancer by working spiritually with the angels and faery folk, I discovered that I was not alone in being marked a defecation of religion. There were others just like me with similar but very different stories from strikingly diverse faiths. I had to share their stories along with mine.* This collection of short stories includes fictionalized versions of my own experiences blended together with my friends' and colleagues' darker encounters with religion and the paranormal. Names and identities have been changed while the truths of these tragedies have forever scared and changed us. Each story explores the influences and consequences of judgment and the supernatural on our personal sense of self-worth. Many of us thought we were safe and that we were saved...until we were hit on the blind side by an evil we expected to be good. Surprisingly validation came from sources we had been taught were "demonic" or "forbidden" for us. Some of us survived while others of us did not. Both of our stories are within these pages. * I, fortunately, came out of my darkness with a new found sense of resolve and conviction...and an abundance of compassion and refined self-worth that once again glitters and shines as gold. May you also be refined by forbidden fires that reveal the gold of your own pricelessness as you venture into the forbidden outer darkness with us. My hope is that you also come out the other side where abundant light and eternal validation are patiently waiting for you upon the completion of your refinement. The trials of your fires are temporary. Underneath all that dross you are gold! You just have to believe it.
