Overview
Instead of spending the summer sailing the California coast as planned, eighteen-year-old Ben Greene finds himself holed up in his grandmother’s house in Monterey. After a steady five year decline from Alzheimer’s disease, she passed away the previous month and Ben has been tasked with cleaning out her house, sifting through a lifetime of memories slowly stolen away from her. When a new neighbor, Nicole, discovers a box of old letters hidden in her closet addressed to Lucy, she’s determined to deliver them and satisfy her curiosity about their origins. But before Ben can explain that his grandmother is no longer living, Lucy appears on the driveway like nothing ever happened, seemingly alive and well.Ben gradually accepts that Lucy has returned from the grave - for how long, or for what purpose, they are both uncertain. Lucy doesn’t remember dying, or that she had Alzheimer’s disease for the last several years of her life. Her earlier memories seem to be intact, and after reading the letters Nicole found, letters she’d never received in life, she shares part of her past with Ben and Nicole - a past Ben knew nothing about.Ben and Nicole find themselves fulfilling a quest from his grandmother’s youth… searching for a lost treasure that unfortunately, they’re not the only ones trying to find. Things become dangerous as they race to finish Lucy’s story - one that was lost with Lucy’s memories, but reborn in pages of letters from the past.
