Overview

Diane Carter, a young mother of a three-year-old girl, discovers that she is living on borrowed time. She knows that her nemesis plans to terminate her existence on earth prematurely. Accepting her fate, she fears that her daughter’s life is also in jeopardy if she doesn’t prepare her daughter to survive on her own. Diane creates an elaborate plan to distract and confuse her enemies. She hopes that this subterfuge will buy her daughter enough time to strengthen her skills to withstand the attacks that will eventually come. When her daughter is almost eight years old, Diane is severely injured in a very suspicious hit and run traffic accident. Diane’s daughter, who possesses extraordinary mind and body control, is now forced to merge into a society which is alien to her. She is lost, unwanted and unloved. Her mother has given her hints as to what is expected of her, but no clear path on which to continue with her life. Diane subsequently dies and her essence travels into the afterlife, where she is captured by her adversary. Diane’s aunt, Catharine initially puts the idea of an Afterlife into the girl’s head. The girl eventually learns how to cross over into the first level of the Afterlife, which is referred to by the local inhabitants, Vor, as the Tween, which is, in fact, a transfer location from one life to the next life. Each night, the girl wanders the Tween in search of her mother, eventually, becoming frustrated because of her failure in locating her mother and the lack of help from Vor. The girl seeks aid from her great aunt Catharine, who at first is skeptical of her grand niece claims, and who, she fears, is not living in reality. Catharine enlists the aid of an expert on the spiritual and occult, Sylvia Ponard to evaluate her grand niece. At about the same time, Homeland Security Agents, being directed by Diane’s Earthside enemy, are searching for the offspring of Diane Carter. Sylvia confirms the girl’s claims by witnessing the crossing first hand but is frightened away by the experience, but not before she informs Catharine of her findings. With the expert’s reassurances, Catharine agrees to assist the girl. By that time, both Catharine and the girl are aware of the Home Security agents pursuit and develop techniques, with the help of the girl’s abilities, to avoid discovery. Unfortunately, sometime later, Catharine is diagnosed as fatally ill. Trying to help the girl, she develops a plan for her to end her life while the girl simultaneously crosses over into the Tween with her to meet their own family Vor, and hopefully Diane. On the day Catharine was to carry out her plan, the girl, still worried about the transition, visits a hospital for further assurances. It is there that she encounters an unhappy young mother named Megan who had accidentally drowned her young infant son. The girl witnesses Megan kill herself over her son’s death and watches as Megan’s essence follows a black path into oblivion. Curious, she follows the woman into an unknown, dismal and disoriented world. Trying to help the woman, the girl is attacked by an unseen force but manages to defend herself. After she repels the attacker, she notices another lost soul enters the Void. The girl recognizes the new interloper as the essence as Catharine, who floats away from her as her antagonist laughs. The girl hurries back to her world to discover her grand aunt’s body being taken away by the ambulance. She is momentarily physically captured by a Government agent, who admits to terminating the life of Catharine. Using her mind, the girl overwhelms her human assailant and returns to her home, avoiding the other agents. Unbeknownst to the girl, an interested third party witnessed the interaction with the agents, followed her home and discovers her identity.
