Nev has survived in the shadows for the past twenty years, careful to avoid drawing attention to herself. Relying on her skills and wits, she has managed to evade the constant threat of prowlers and enforcers. They are the sinister agents of a corrupt regime and hunt her mercilessly—as they do all of the Unmarked. However, Nev has recently drawn the focused interest of one prowler in particular. Sagrine, a prowler of fearsome renown, is close to claiming his prize. While seeking treatment for an injury Sagrine inflicted, Nev unwittingly stumbles into the fate she’s attempted to elude her entire life. Fortunately, prowlers and enforcers are not the only things waiting for her in the town below. When a helpful bystander moves to intervene, Nev is left with a decision. Will she accept the stranger’s help, or does she decide that is not a risk worth taking?
