Set primarily in contemporary Rome, this boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl romance quickly reveals itself as a sinister ghost story, a tale of forbidden love and eternal anguish.Paul Barrington is an investment broker who lives and works in San Francisco. Shortly after his father's death he travels to Rome, the city in which he was born. Rome is also where his mother died during childbirth and it becomes the setting for a tale of death and love, beginning when Paul meets Elizabeth at an outdoor cafe. They are immediately attracted to each other and over the course of four days and nights, of course they fall in love.But when Paul discovers the disturbing connection between his mother's death and Elizabeth's true identity - she's the ghost of his twin sister who died at birth with his mother, though he was not aware that he was born as a twin - he becomes the victim of an act of unthinkable evil that forces himself and Elizabeth together, while also reuniting Paul with his long-dead mother and recently-deceased father.Paul does not want to lose Elizabeth so all he has to do is die and he will be with her, two lovers in a haunted dream, disappearing into a sinister landscape of shadows and tall trees.
