Overview

TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR THE CITY OF REDBURN AND ITS HEIR. Julian Redburn has always known he would die young as the price of his costly power, yet he carries on regardless, hiding his addiction to the divine magic from both his parents and his younger sister, Marta. Appearing at meetings, organising their festivals, doing his duties-- it's simple, as long as he keeps his failing health quiet. Marta knows better. Forever in her brother's shadow, she sees more than he knows, the slips of power, the hint of silver magic eternally at his fingertips. He is not fit to be heir, unlike her. All she has to do is prove it to her father, and then the title of 'Lady' will be hers. However, when a surprise attack devastates the city, tragedy rips through his family, their lives changed forever. With the threat of all-out war suddenly upon them, Julian and Marta come to blows of ideology on what to do next, and in turn, decide to embark on a journey to meet with the man who would see their city in ruins. Alongside Teddy, a young woman seeking a fabled dagger, and Aelius, a youth with a shadowed past, they make for their goal--but the path is arduous, and Julian's health is only getting worse. As the destructive powers of light and dark clash, the lives of many are at stake. Who will reign as victor when it all comes to pass?
