Overview
This story was one of the first written by this author. It places three dogs in the wilderness among a pack of coyotes, which together end up facing demons from the under-realm. It consists of poetry as well as prose with detailed descriptions. This is the first part of the novel. The Seeds of Liquidambar is an unconventional book that is intended to take readers into a dream world. There is adventure, horror, and weirdness rolled into one. Excerpts: 1) The wind blows; the foliage rustles. Buildings turn off their lights while others illuminate the streets, darkening the sky. Millions die by the hands of an unknown force; unexplained by science; many lost in the wilderness, or taken from battle. As the paradox of society flexes its tentacles, many of human wind down to settle someplace on the outskirts of the bustle. Not all make it across the finish line, but those who do have a whole new life ahead to live, and a battle to betake. 2) That night, Tiger is given a can of wet food. From across the property border, Jasmine catches his scent from a tree just out of reach. She paces to and from the corners of her yard waiting for his nightly appearance. But 3:00 am rolls in and Chancelina is granted her wish to be let out, even though this disrupts her owner’s precious sleep. At the shadows, beyond the back fencing of the yard, she hectically barks. Jasmine pays the alarm no attention and wanders beneath the large deck—for her hearing has faded and the intensity of situations are not fully appreciated due to the lack of volume that is received. Tiger is awakened by the snippy nuisance outside. He walks quietly out of the main bedroom and patrols the house softly, as not to disturb his master. No odd smell alerts him, but a noise of something treading slowly upon the leaves. It does not sound like Jasmine, but he is unsure of what it is. Tiger instinctively growls. Lying at the back door, he is on guard for nearly an hour before the noise dissipates and the wind covers any existing noise if it really were to have been.
