Captain Jake Smit loved the Zulu, but he hated the superstition that permeated their society, as a police captain he saw the worst of the witchcraft murders and barbaric rituals. Now he had to deal with an outbreak of killing that had brought the volatile Zulu to the boil, because the slaughter was reputed to be the work of the dreaded Impundulu, a legendary Lightning Bird that struck lightning off its talons and fed on human blood. First he must deal with the lanky Texan, who stirred the story in the local newspaper, Jake Smit looked forward to reasoning with her because Marlin Madison was a beautiful woman. She was also an exceptionally talented journalist, her coverage of the Lightning Bird had garnered widespread interest, but she never suspected that behind the killings lay evil greater than Marlin or Jake imagined.
