The first six short stories were first published between 1910 and 1912 in two magazines and then printed together as an anthology in 1913. The original illustrations are reproduced in this enhanced edition. The final three stories were published after his death. One is a pure detective story but features Carnacki. The Hog is 16,000 words and was likely too long for a magazine and thus never published. In these stories Thomas Carnacki invites four of his friends over to dine, expressly forbidding to ask him for any stories until after the meal is over. Then, over cigars, Carnacki tells them of his latest adventure. And in an unusual twist, some of these mysteries have supernatural answers and some may only appear to.
